You don't have to worry about varicose vein surgery or scars anymore
Do you suffer from venous problems? At MEDICOM Clinic, we specialize in varicose vein surgery, from the smallest of varicose veins to varicose veins with bulging varicose veins. Find out all about our effective minimally invasive procedures in an interview with Radka Lainková, MD, vascular surgeon at MEDICOM Clinic in Prague.
What leads to venous problems and who are they affecting?
Women are more susceptible. Newly formed varicose veins or scrotal veins often appear in pregnancy, when the pressure in the lower limbs changes, the development of varicose veins also affects lifestyle, especially long standing or sedentary work. Very often, venous problems occur in hairdressers or clerks. Family background, being overweight or smoking also contribute to the development of varicose veins.
The more serious vascular diseases mainly affect older patients, but it is not uncommon for new adult clients to undergo treatment. We recommend starting treatment as soon as the first visible veins or varicose veins appear: the smaller the intervention, the faster the recovery. However, minimally invasive methods can also cope with more extensive venous problems.
What are the advantages of modern methods of treatment of varicose veins?
Mini-invasive methods are much less burdensome compared to older surgical procedures. They do not require general anaesthesia or hospitalisation - they are performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia or analgosedation. The pain of the procedure is also many times less.
After the procedure, the patient leaves the clinic and can immediately resume normal activities with minimal restrictions. For two weeks, he should not play sports intensively or lift heavy weights; he should also skip sauna and sunbathing. His reward, however, will be beautiful legs without unsightly scars. With minimally invasive treatments, it is not necessary to surgically remove the diseased veins.
What minimally invasive methods can be used to operate on varicose veins and scrotal veins?
First, we perform a painless ultrasound examination and based on this we recommend the most suitable treatment method to the client. During the consultation, we thoroughly inform the client about the procedure. We remove varicose veins and varicose veins using laser technology or sclerotherapy with foam or solution. Both methods allow a quick return to everyday life.
According to clinical studies, laser varicose veinsurgery using the EVLA method has a 98% success rate in treating varicose veins. It is a quick and less painful solution compared to older methods. The procedure itself takes less than an hour and relief comes almost immediately. A tiny 2-3 mm puncture is used to insert a laser fibre into the vein, and the laser beam then closes the damaged vein and so-called "burns" it from the inside. The vein does not need to be surgically removed, so the patient is not left with scars after the procedure. We monitor the progress of the operation with ultrasound throughout the entire procedure, thus preventing any complications. The healthy parts of the veins remain intact.

Mini-invasive methods can be combined as needed. Laser surgery is very often supplemented with a so-called miniphlebectomy. A mini-phlebectomy is a minimally invasive operation for lateral varicose veins. During this procedure, we remove varicose veins using special hooks made of tiny punctures of only 2-3 mm. The wounds are small enough to heal on their own.
Another minimally invasive method is the sclerotization of varicose veins. By applying a foam or solution through tiny punctures, we can get rid of even the finest purple veins. A special solution so-called glues the vein walls together, the treated veins gradually turn into connective tissue and stop shining under the skin. The result is youthful-looking legs that no longer need to be hidden.
How is the recovery process?
With minimal restrictions, clients can return to office work, walking and other normal activities almost immediately after these procedures.
However, the post-operative regimen strongly affects the outcome of the procedure, so it is essential to wear compression underwear during recovery. After EVLA laser surgery, patients wear compression stockings for 1 week day and night, and then only during the day for the next 2-3 weeks. However, clients see results almost immediately: varicose veins are not noticeable after the surgery, and there is also immediate relief from heavy and painful legs and swelling. After sclerotherapy, definitive results can be expected after 1 to 3 months. After the surgery, patients wear compression elastic stockings for the first 3 days for 24 hours, then only during the day for 1 to 2 weeks.
The advantage of today's post-operative underwear is not only the functionality and quality of the materials, but also the elegant appearance, which is a harbinger of prettier and more youthful legs without varicose veins and calluses.
