Plastic surgery under local anaesthesia - without fear of anaesthesia or pain

Fear of general anesthesia is quite widespread. Other reasons why people prefer to avoid general anaesthesia may be medical conditions that do not allow a greater burden on the body. With new methods coming to the fore in plastic surgery, local anaesthesia procedures are coming to the fore, which are gentler on the body and offer a number of other benefits besides. More and more clients and plastic surgeons themselves prefer them for these reasons.

Procedures without anaesthesia have their advantages

  • Lower risk of complications and strain on the body
  • Less stress and discomfort, such as nausea, fatigue or confusion
  • Faster return to home and normal activities
  • A gentle solution if the medical condition does not allow general anaesthesia
  • Lower costs are reflected in a more favourable price for surgery

"The advantage of the outpatient procedure is that it does not require hospitalization. For greater comfort, we give clients premedication before the procedure, which not only calms them down, but also shifts the pain threshold. Initially, they may experience only mild discomfort with the application of local anesthetic. During the operation, they do not feel pain, only touch or movement."

The most common outpatient procedures

Upper or lower eyelid surgery

Blepharoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures ever. It is commonly performed on an outpatient basis and is generally well tolerated by both men and women. During the operation, the area around the eyes is numbed with an anaesthetic using a few punctures with a thin needle, so there is no need to worry about pain. If clients feel uncomfortable, they alert the doctor who can add anesthetic at any time for their maximum comfort. The overall duration is relatively short, usually around one to two hours in the case of upper and lower eyelid blepharoplasty at the same time. During the procedure itself, it is not uncommon for clients to chat with the doctor and be pleasantly surprised to have the procedure over so quickly.

Liposuction of one or more smaller areas

The advantage of liposuction under general anaesthesia is the possibility of suctioning several areas at once. If the liposuction is of a smaller extent, the doctor will almost always recommend a procedure under local anaesthesia, which is gentler on the body. Another advantage is that the client cooperates with the doctor at all times, making it easier for the surgeon to prevent possible asymmetries, especially when liposuction is performed on paired areas such as thighs, hips, arms.

Deep plane facelift

Other facial rejuvenation surgeries are also increasingly performed on an outpatient basis, without hospitalization. This is also the case with the currently most popular types of facelifts - MyFaceLift or the deep plane method. Combining several procedures is not an obstacle either. Very often a facelift under local anaesthesia is combined with a neck lift, eyelid surgery or an upper lip lift, the so-called lip lift. Clients can go home immediately after the procedure.

Tip by Medicom Clinic plastic surgeons

Before any surgery, it is recommended to eat a protein-rich diet and take collagen supplements. They also advise clients to undergo surgery when they are at a stable weight. This will prevent subsequent weight loss or gain from interfering with the outcome of the surgery.
