In most cases, the consultation is linked to the application. You tell the dermatologist what is bothering you and what your expectations are for the outcome of the procedure. Together, you will identify the imperfections that will be targeted.

Details of the procedure

The doctor applies botulinum toxin, which works by temporarily interrupting the nerve connections in the facial muscles; they do not receive signals to contract and therefore relax. This also prevents the appearance of new wrinkles. The application of botulinum toxin is often combined with the application of hyaluronic acid, as each substance is suited to different parts of the face and for different purposes.

Contraindications

Botulinum toxin should not be applied to pregnant or breastfeeding women. We also do not treat clients with acute skin conditions such as cold sores or eczema.

Duration of treatment and results

The procedure itself takes 15-30 minutes. The application can be very mildly uncomfortable, so we ice the area with cool packs during the application. Results will be seen within 3-5 days of application and the rejuvenation effect will continue to increase over the next week. Maximum wrinkle softening will be achieved after approximately 2 weeks.

Accompanying effects

Redness, slight swelling or increased sensitivity in the area may occur after the treatment. Some people may develop a small bruise. Do not worry about these side effects, they will disappear very quickly.

Immediately after application

Do not bend over or lie down for the first 4 hours after botulinum toxin application. Avoid strenuous physical activities and high temperatures in the sauna, solarium and sunbathing for a week. Skip going to the aesthetician for a week after the procedure.

Follow-up is not necessary

You do not need to come in for a check-up after the application. Complications are practically not encountered. If necessary, you can of course contact the treating physician. Very rarely, headaches, momentary weakness or flu-like symptoms may occur after botulinum toxin injection.

Long-term effect

The wrinkle-smoothing effect usually lasts 3-6 months. After this time, it is worth repeating the treatment. Botulinum toxin can therefore be applied twice a year.

Rarely, flu-like symptoms, headaches or weakness may occur after application. Rarely, an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity may occur. In a minority of cases, eyelid drooping or excessive muscle weakness may occur. However, side effects are practically not encountered in our clinic.

The application of botulinum toxin is not suitable for pregnant and lactating women or for people suffering from rare neurological diseases of the neuromuscular disc. We also consider herpes or other infectious diseases to be a contraindication to botulinum toxin application. For example, any inflammation directly in the area to be treated, such as in acne.

The effect of the treatment occurs between 3-5 days, increases over the next week and persists for 3-5 months. Therefore, it is enough to apply botulinum toxin 2 times a year.

The duration of action of the active substance is individual. However, as a rule, the effect lasts about half a year. With each subsequent application, the effect of the substance is even prolonged. In the future, clients usually only need one botulinum toxin wrinkle treatment per year.
