Gynecomastia removal is a surgical procedure aimed at breast reduction in men. The cause of swelling of the mammary gland may be due to hormonal imbalances and other health problems or the use of certain medications. The procedure can also be combined with gentle liposuction of the breasts in the case of so-called pseudogynecomastia or with removal of excess skin after significant weight loss. In addition to aesthetic improvement, the procedure also provides relief from physical discomfort in cases of pain. The result is a masculine-looking chest without asymmetries.

The course of the procedure

Consultation

A consultation with a plastic surgeon is essential before the procedure. He or she will evaluate your health condition, your expectations and explain the details of the procedure. During the consultation, you will get a detailed explanation of the procedure and what to expect before, during and after the surgery. You will be informed about the necessary preparation, including dietary and medication recommendations.

Preparing for the procedure

If breast surgery is recommended, you will also have an ultrasound examination of your breasts. This is a routine sonographic examination, which we do not yet perform in our clinics, but we will be happy to recommend a suitable facility. Your GP or endocrinologist should also be able to give you a good tip for a facility near where you live. An ultrasound examination will determine with precision whether your case is really gynaecomastia (swollen breast gland) or just pseudogynaecomastia (breast gland turned into fat).

The course of the procedure

The removal of pseudogynecomastia is performed as an outpatient procedure using gentle liposuction under local anaesthesia. In the case of proven gynaecomastia, the breast tissue is removed surgically under general anaesthesia through a small incision around the areola, leaving virtually no visible scar. If it is necessary to remove excess fat or skin at the same time, it is possible to perform the correction in one procedure for an even more perfect and noticeable effect. After this type of procedure, you will have a one-day hospitalization in the clinic.

Recovery

After surgery under local anesthesia, you will go home the same day for home care. In the case of general anaesthesia, you will remain in the clinic under the supervision of our doctors until the next day. Immediately after the procedure, you may experience mild pain, which can be relieved with painkillers. Swelling or bruising is also normal, but will disappear within a few weeks. After gynecomastia surgery, it is necessary to wear compression garments for several weeks for a perfect result. According to the doctor's instructions, the operated area needs to be treated and pressure massage of the scars needs to be performed afterwards. Resting is recommended for the first one to two weeks for proper healing. Sports and increased activity should be avoided for approximately one month. It is important to continue to maintain a stable body weight for a lasting result of the procedure.

Yes. The most advanced liposuction technique suitable for most clients undergoing both at the same time - removal of swollen breast gland including liposuction - is to perform laser breast liposuction. The combined procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and is normally followed by a one-day hospital stay in the clinic.

Only the ultrasound examination that precedes the procedure will show whether you are going to undergo invasive liposuction or plastic surgery on your breasts. If it turns out that it is gynecomastia, the doctor will evaluate at the consultation preceding the procedure whether the enlarged breast tissue will be surgically removed or whether the procedure will be combined with liposuction for a better appearance of your breasts.
