Otoplasty plastic surgery for aesthetic appearance of the auricles

Ear plastic surgery (otoplasty) is a popular surgical procedure that addresses droopy ears, asymmetry of the ears or other aesthetic deficiencies of the ears. The procedure not only improves the aesthetics of the ears, but also greatly enhances patients' self-esteem. Otoplasty is often recommended for people who have been troubled by disproportionately droopy ears since childhood or for those who wish to correct the shape or size of their ears (reduction otoplasty). Ear reshaping ensures a permanent result without significant scarring.

  • No visible scars

Scars remain behind the pinnae, therefore they are not visible to the eye

  • Solution of various anomalies

The procedure will help with asymmetry and drooping ears

  • No hospitalization required

Can be performed only under local anesthesia

  • Top plastic surgeons

  • Addresses anomalies such as asymmetry or drooping ears
  • Earlobe reshaping surgery takes approximately 1-2 hours

Who is the procedure suitable for?

If you are concerned about droopy ears, asymmetry of the ears or other aesthetic problems, ear plastic surgery (otoplasty) may be the ideal solution. This procedure is suitable for children and adults who wish to correct the appearance of their ears and achieve a more natural look. We also perform correction of large ear holes and a pulled earlobe due to excessive piercings in the ear (called tunnels) or wearing heavy earrings.

For whom is the procedure not suitable?

Otoplasty is not suitable for clients with serious medical conditions such as bleeding disorders or chronic diseases, as well as active infections in the ear area or pregnant or breastfeeding women.

The course of the procedure

Consultation

At the beginning, you will have a consultation with a plastic surgeon who will evaluate your condition and discuss with you the options for achieving the desired result. If you decide to have ear surgery during the initial consultation, you can also schedule a time with the surgeon for the procedure itself. Since otoplasty is performed under local anesthesia, only a basic biochemical blood test will be sufficient.

The risks of the procedure are minimal

The most common complications include swelling, bruising and minor bleeding, which usually resolves within a few days. However, there are also some risks with ear surgery. The most significant of these is a poorly healed scar. Therefore, it is crucial to choose an experienced surgeon and follow the post-operative care carefully.

The procedure

Ear surgery takes approximately 1-1.5 hours under local anaesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon will make the necessary adjustments to the shape of the ears and various anomalies - their asymmetry, too large or flat earlobes. We can also adjust the size of a particular part of the ear. Only the initial administration of anaesthesia can be unpleasant, but this wears off within a few moments. The absorbable suture dissolves on its own. If conventional sutures are used, they are removed after approximately 10-14 days. At the check-up , the doctor will assess the progress of healing.

You often wonder

Yes, it is definitely possible to operate on only one ear pin. If the procedure is unilateral, the price is of course lower.

Ear surgery is performed under local anaesthesia. For children under 10 years of age, however, we usually recommend surgery under general anaesthesia so that children are not afraid and the surgery is safer.

The surgical wound usually takes 1-2 weeks to heal. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to strict hygiene - outpatient checks with dressings are carried out. Stitches are removed in about 2 weeks, but cartilage is fully healed in about 2-3 months.

During the procedure itself, we numb the operated area. After the anaesthetic wears off, about 3-4 hours after the procedure, the operated area starts to hurt. The analgesics your doctor recommends will help.

We recommend an elevated head position, sleep rather backwards for a few days. You can put pillows next to your head to prevent it from turning and sleeping on its side, i.e. on one of the operated sides.
