Removing snoring through surgery procedure

The appropriateness of surgical intervention must be assessed by a sleep medicine or ENT specialist. Sleep analysis determines whether the snoring can be safely surgically removed either by so-called septoplasty or upper floor resection. The procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia or analgosedation and can also be combined.

The uvula is a part of the soft palate and is located at the back of the throat. It is here that vibrations are created during sleep that can typically cause snoring. During a resection, part or all of the uvula is removed, improving airflow during sleep.

The postoperative condition is usually accompanied by mild sore throat or nasal septum and swelling, which should gradually subside. Short-term restriction of physical activity should be expected for proper healing. Surgical removal of snoring is not possible in clients who are overweight or have any of the more severe forms of sleep apnea syndrome.
