Liposuction of the hips

For a perfectly sculpted silhouette

Before the procedure

Come for a consultation

The first important step is an initial consultation with an expert liposuction consultant or directly with a plastic surgeon. You'll tell one of them what your vision is for the outcome of the procedure, and together you'll find the best way to achieve it. First of all, you will choose one of 5 options for invasive liposuction: classic tumescent liposuction, ultrasonic liposuction, laser liposuction or water liposuction.

You will learn all the necessary information about the procedure, the post-operative healing process and possible risks. An expert consultant or plastic surgeon will answer all your questions. You will also see before and after photos of our clients. If you decide to undergo the procedure during your consultation, you can also schedule an appointment right away.

Under local anesthesia, we remove fat from only one major area

If you wish to undergo the procedure under local anesthesia, please be aware that we can only remove fat from one larger problem area. The second larger area can only be addressed during the next procedure. If you wish to suction fat from more than one area at a time, you will discuss with your consultant or doctor the possibility of having the procedure under general anaesthetic. However, as a general rule, we prefer to perform liposuction of one main area under local anaesthetic and then liposuction of another area under local anaesthetic in the future. The operation is less demanding for the body and we achieve better results.

Usually only a basic pre-operative examination is needed

Before liposuction under local anaesthesia, it is usually sufficient to undergo only a basic biochemical blood test. This test is included in the price of the procedure, you will not pay extra for it. Depending on your wishes, we will perform the examination at our clinic either at a predetermined time or on the day of the procedure. However, the examination must not be older than 14 days on the day of surgery.

Taking blood thinning medication is unfortunately a contraindication to the procedure. This medication must not be taken as early as one week before the planned procedure. Thus, it is up to your hematologist to authorize discontinuation of this medication for at least 14 days (one week before and one week after the procedure) without putting you at risk.

During the procedure

The procedure varies slightly from method to method

For all invasive liposuction procedures, we use a tumescent solution containing diluted anaesthetic and adrenaline. This makes the procedure painless. Once the anaesthetic has taken effect, the doctor starts suctioning the fat from the designated area using a thin cannula that is connected to a device that creates a vacuum.

However, in the case of ultrasonic liposuction and both laser liposuction, a special microcannula with a penetrating ultrasound or laser fiber is used to soften the fat before the actual suctioning. The suction is then gentler on the skin and easier for the doctor to do as well. The laser and ultrasound target the fat cells exclusively, so they do not damage the surrounding tissues or blood vessels. As a result, the client has less swelling and bruising after the procedure and the overall post-operative healing time is reduced.

Do not remove compression garments for the first 24 hours

You will be fully conscious during the procedure, so you can communicate with the doctor. Invasive liposuction takes about 2-2.5 hours. Once it is complete, we will dress you in compression underwear, which you must not remove from your body for at least 24 hours.

Staying at the clinic

You can go home immediately after the procedure

After the procedure under local anaesthesia, there is no need to be hospitalized in the clinic. If you live in the same city as our clinic, we will be happy to drive you home free of charge. Otherwise, ask your partner or someone close to you to come and pick you up.

After returning home

Take it easy for the first 2 weeks after the procedure

You will wear the compression underwear that we will put on after the procedure for 2-6 weeks, based on your doctor's instructions. You can wash the underwear, it is quick drying. You should also expect to have orange-coloured fluid oozing from the small skin wounds for the first 2-3 days after the procedure. But that's perfectly fine. It's just a residue of the tumescent solution.

At first, you should just shower.

After showering, gently dry the skin wounds with a towel. Bathing in the tub is only advisable after the skin wounds have healed, i.e. about 1-2 weeks after the procedure. If you feel that the area is not healing well and inflammation might break out, apply antibiotics in the form of a patch or ointment (e.g. Framykoin). Your doctor will also check that everything is OK during the check-up, which you will attend after the first 3 weeks after the procedure.

Keep an eye on your energy intake

You will not see fat tissue forming again in the area where the cannula was used to suction the fat. However, if you resign yourself to a healthy lifestyle, the fat may settle in another problem area. Watch your energy intake and expenditure. You can slowly start physical activities about a month after the procedure.

Be more careful in the sun, too. Skin that has been disrupted by the procedure is more prone to pigmentation, so we do not recommend sunbathing or going to the tanning bed for several weeks after liposuction.

You won't have to wait long for the results

Expect the area to be swollen for a few days after the procedure, and the effect of the liposuction may not appear to be very great. However, after the first 14 days the difference will be noticeable. This is when the swelling will begin to absorb and the loosened skin will fix back to the deeper layers. You will then see the greatest effect about 2 months after the procedure.

Use a wooden roller and wear compression underwear

After liposuction, hardening and various irregularities may appear on the skin at the site of the liposuction. However, by using a wooden roller and consistently wearing compression underwear, these will completely disappear over time. Start rolling approximately 2 weeks after surgery. Ideally, roll the treated area for 20 minutes a day. If, despite these precautions, the hardness of your skin remains for more than 6 months, consult your surgeon. If he/she assesses that there was a mistake on his/her part, he/she will perform a correction procedure free of charge.

It is also common to experience a change in sensitivity at the site where the liposuction was performed. However, this condition will correct and return to normal within a few months. Other complications are very rare. However, in case of any problem, please contact your doctor.
